George Delis passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020. George was born on November 21, 1933, in Piana Arcadias, Greece, to Athanasios and Marigo, nee Kolias, Delis. He immigrated to the United States at 21 years of age and soon proudly served in the United States Army. He was so proud of becoming an American citizen.
He played music his whole life, starting in Greece and playing in the United States for over 40 years, playing at countless weddings, baptisms, Church festivals and other functions. He was often referred to as the Greek Elvis.
He was full of life and loved people and entertaining them, doing magic tricks, playing pranks, and looking to make everyone laugh. He was strong and true in his faith and was a proud Godfather to 21 children throughout his life.
He was married to Maria, nee Papakonstantinou, for 50 years and had two children, Tom and Marigo. He was so very proud of them and always would say to Maria, ‘We have done good Gineka Mou.’ His greatest joy was being a Pappou, and he loved his grandchildren beyond compare. He would always say, ‘I love them two times more than my own children.’ He spent the last years of his life surrounded by them, creating unforgettable memories that they will forever cherish.
Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, Funeral and Interment Services are private, however, SS. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church will “live-stream” the service. Click here to watch
May His Memory Be Eternal.
Dear Marigo, Dean, Maria and Demetri,
My deepest sympathy for the loss of your father and Papou. I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing him when he would pick up Maria and Demitri from Agape preschool.
May his memory be eternal.
Love, Sia Coorlas
