Frances V. Palmer (nee Cosmos), loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on September 26, 2019, at the age of 95. She was born on August 2, 1924, in Hastings, Nebraska to Christ and Thalia Cosmos. She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Louis Geannopoulos, father of her four children, and Michael Palmer, father of her three step-children, her brother James Cosmos and her parents.
She is survived by her seven children, Celia (Scott) Drane, George (Geni) Geannopoulos, Chris (Audrey) Geannopoulos, Byron (Tanya Dawkins) Geannopoulos, Peter Palmer, Sandra Palmer, Viki (Paul) Vestuto, her sister-in-law, Joan Kayeum, fifteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Fran was first-generation Greek-American, bridging the gap between old country’s customs and new. After attending Hastings College and Iowa State University, she graduated with a BS in Food and Nutrition in 1947, followed by a dietetics internship the following year in New York City. She met her husband Louis and they settled in Chicago to raise their four children. Widowed young with four small children, Frances managed to balance being a single mother and a dietician at Evanston Hospital, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was active in her church and there met Michael Palmer, whom she would go on to marry and welcome his three children into their new home in Northbrook, IL.
“Fofi”, as she was known to those close to her, devoted herself to her husband Mike, her church, her family and her many friends. She loved the symphony, playing bridge, traveling, enjoying her family and seeing her friends. She was known for her cooking including her pasticcio and spanakopita at every holiday meal. We are blessed to have had her for so many wonderful years.
