John Diolitsis, age 86, of Mount Prospect, beloved husband of 63 years to Nafsika (Homatas), fell asleep in the Lord on October 1, 2020. Loving father of Athanasia (James Metropulos), Euridice, Theodora (James Bucaro) and Irakli ‘Ike.’ Son of the late Irakli and Euridice (nee Floutsis) Diolitsis. Grandfather of Irene (George), Costa (Ekaterini), Eftehia, Amanda (Dustin), Christina and Antigone, and Great Grandfather of Nikolas, Georgie and Ayanna. Brother of the late Areti (Demetri) Lambros, and the late Andreas (Eleni) Diolitsis.
John was a respected and loving brother-in-law, cousin, uncle and godfather of many who reside here, Canada and Greece, and had a tremendous impact on the lives of many. Born in Ahladokampos, Greece, John moved to Chicago in September of 1968, but his heart never left his hometown. He worked in the restaurant industry and visited Ahladokampos every year in order to cultivate his olive trees. John was passionate about many things, including his friends, ‘the Ahladokampitiko spiti’ (where he was the official chef), hunting, guns, reading history and ‘kleftika tragoudia.’ His children and grandchildren learned from him that everything is possible if you trust and believe in God, work hard, stay close to family and be kind to all people.
Family and friends will meet on Monday, October 5, 2020, at St. Lazarus Greek Orthodox Chapel, 9900 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois, (located inside Ridgewood Memorial Park), for Visitation at 11:30 a.m. and Funeral Service at 12:00 – Noon. Interment will follow directly.
May His Memory Be Eternal
