May 29, 1933 – December 29, 2020

Bill was born in Amyklai, Sparta, Greece. He proudly served in the Greek army before emigrating to Toronto, Canada. There he met the love of his life, Mary Petromihelis. They married in 1965, had 2 children, and eventually settled in Chicago, Illinois in 1968. Bill was a hardworking machinist who gladly worked overtime and extra shifts to provide for his family who meant everything to him. Bill was known for his extraordinary garden, especially his fig trees and oregano that were transplanted from Greece. He was adored by his family but especially by his six grandchildren. He was known for giving the best piggy back rides. His family will miss him greatly but will remember his life stories and the lessons they contained.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary (nee Petromihelis). Loving father of Peter (Jennifer) Mihalakakos and Pettie (Kurt) Von Eyser. Proud grandfather of Arianna (Scott Koeneman), Alexandra, Alayna, and Amalia Mihalakakos, and William and Nicole Von Eyser. Dear brother of Potoula (Angelo) Kalkanis, Spiro (the late Bessie), the late Michael, and the late Louis. Devoted son of the late Panagiotis and Maria Mihalakakos. Dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend of many.

Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in William’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

I am very saddened to just now ( Dec.2022) discover the passing of my uncle Bill…even more saddened that i never kept in touch…why do families lose touch with each other – after all, what could possibly be more important. My deepest condolences to his ( my ) family. Rest In Peace dear uncle.
