Anastasia “Ann” P. Graven, beloved wife of the late Dr. John P. Graven (Gravenitis); devoted daughter of the late Christine and James Peters; daughter-in-law of the late Athena and Peter Gravenitis; loving aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend to many. Anastasia was a teacher and administrator in the Chicago Public Schools. Her teaching career began at Parker Elementary and then as Assistant Director of the Bryn Mawr Gifted Demonstration Center. As a member of the Pilot Cadre staff for the implementation of the Magnet School concept, she became Assistant Principal of the Disney Magnet School in charge of curriculum and Pupil Personnel Services. Mrs. Graven continued her career for 14 years as Principal of the Daniel Boone and Decatur Classical Schools simultaneously until her retirement in 1989. Anastasia’s legacy of love, family, faith, courage, service, and friendship exemplified her life’s path. Her mentorship extended far beyond family. To celebrate life with heartfelt conversations and laughter was her special gift. She is now at rest with her beloved husband, John. May her memory be eternal in all of our hearts.
