Haralambos “Bobby” Legatos, fell asleep in our Lord on March 20, 2023. Beloved husband of Dana Legatos nee Kouliantonis. Loving father of Dennis (Kathy) Legatos and Serena (Elias) Coines. Proud Pappou of Bobby and Constantine Legatos and Constantine, Theodora, and Bobby Coines. Dear brother of the late Spiro (survived by Kathy) Legatos and brother-in-law of Aggeliki (the late Gerasimos) Aravantinos, Kate (Leftheri) Sinodinos, and Froso (George) Podimatas. Cherished son of the late Dionsysios and Serena Legatos. Dear uncle, cousin, godfather, and friend of many who will miss him.

Haralambos aka “Bobby” was born and raised in his beloved Lixouri, Cephallonia, Greece. He was a man of integrity who joked and laughed often, loved debating politics, giving history lessons to all at gatherings, chanting at church, and singing and playing his favorite Cephallonian Kantades (Κεφαλλονίτικες Καντάδες) on his guitar to all. As a young man, he helped run his family’s grocery store and once he graduated high school, he worked on ships traveling all over the world until he landed in the U.S. in 1961 to join his brother Spiro in the restaurant business, working his way up from a bus boy to grillman and chef. In the 1960s, Spiro and Bobby opened a snack shop in Chicago called Sam’s Steakhouse on Roosevelt and Wabash. In 1969, he traveled back to Lixouri and married the love of his life, Damanskini aka Dana. For the remainder of his career, Bobby continued to work as a chef and as they say, the rest is history. His greatest joy of his later years was watching his grandchildren grow to the wonderful people they are today.

Friends and family will meet for visitation on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4PM-8PM at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W. Talcott Avenue, Park Ridge, IL. Funeral service Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2727 Winona Avenue, Chicago, IL. The funeral service may be viewed live or recorded at St. Demetrios’ Youtube channel. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL.
