Anthony A. Nichols, 81, a veteran Chicago banker and leader in its Greek community, died on April 1, 2021.
    Nichols was president and CEO of Central Savings F.S.B. in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood for over fifty years, before retiring in 2017.  He was a director of the Illinois Savings and Loan League, Bankers Club of Chicago, and Chicago Association of Financial Institutions.      
   For his work in Lakeview as president and director of both the Lakeview and Lincoln Park Chambers of Commerce, Lakeview Citizens Council, Lakeview Development Corp., and St. Joseph’s Hospital, in 2016, the City of Chicago named the portion of Ashland Avenue in front of Central Savings in his honor.            
   In 1998, the Hellenic Bar Association honored him as Hellene of the Year. Nichols was president of St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago and chaired its annual Greek Festival. Since 1991, he had been an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, an international religious association.
   An emeritus board member of Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road, the Schools honored him with its Sister Catherine Seiker RSCJ Award for a life exemplifying the school’s values in 2019.  
   He was born in Chicago on Dec. 31, 1939 to Harry A. and Beatrice Nicholas Nichols. He was a graduate of Hardey Preparatory School for Boys (Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road) and St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, WI. He attended Northwestern University’s School of Business for three years, after which he joined Central Savings and the Naval Air Reserve at Glenview Naval Air Station.  
   In 1966, he married Marianne Corelis Nichols, who survives him, as does their daughter, Paula Nichols Bork; son-in-law Gregory Bork Jr.; two grandsons, Bosco and Leonidas, and numerous cousins.  
   Visitation will be at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago on Monday, Apr. 5 from 9:30-11a.m. Funeral services and interment will be private, but will be streamed through St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church Chicago You Tube Channel.  
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Anthony Nichols to Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road, 6250 North Sheridan Road, Chicago IL 60660 or St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church.
