A smiling woman with short hair wearing a turtleneck and a necklace inside a room.

Corinne M. Karagiannis née Bahaveolos, age 80, fell asleep in the Lord January 29, 2024. Beloved wife of Constantine Karagiannis for 62 years. Loving mother of Sophia (Pete) Giannakopoulos and George Karagiannis. Devoted daughter of the late Andrew and Emma Bahaveolos. Very proud grandmother of Ellie and Matthew Giannakopoulos and Alex Karagiannis. Loving mother-in-law of Aimee Karagiannis. Dear sister of Helaine (Frank) Covatta and Susan (Mike) Saucedo and the late Stratis (Joan) Bahaveolos and Maria (John) Kenney. Loving aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews. Fond cousin of many.

Corinne loved people and she adored children. As a young wife and mother, she always tried to create fun moments with her children. She was the heart of the home, always cooking and providing for the needs of her family. Corinne and her husband, Gus, worked side by side for over 20 years in their Evanston restaurant. Always dedicated and hardworking, she greeted their customers with a smile. She loved listening to the details of people’s lives and made everyone feel welcome. Years later, Corinne wanted to try a new venture. She opened a retail store next to the restaurant and worked with her daughter and son-in-law. The store was a different pace than the restaurant but she approached each day with the same enthusiasm and work ethic. Chatting with the customers and getting to know them was second nature to her. After working hard for forty years, she “retired” at 53 to be a grandmother. This was her shining role. She cherished her three grandchildren, spending quality time with them and making them feel loved and special. Whether they were playing a game, baking cookies together or snuggling with a good book, they could always count on Grandma-Yiayia for a good time. Watching her grandchildren grow up and being part of their lives was her true joy. Corinne was always the hostess. She loved gathering her family, her siblings and friends and spending time with them. She enjoyed volunteering at church and was always looking for ways to help others. She was patient and loving to anyone she met. If you were blessed to know Corinne, then you knew her kind and giving spirit. She has left the world a better place and her legacy of love will live on. There is no doubt that when God welcomed her home, she heard Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

I’m so sad to hear this! She always sat behind us in church, and she often joked around with me. I am truly going to miss her beautiful smile. May her memory be eternal!

She always had a ready smile which made each of us feel special and welcome.
