On Wed. April 28, 2021, George Besbekis of Northbrook, IL passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, after a long illness. Born in Chicago on July 22, 1929. Predeceased by his loving parents Peter and Olga (nee Bisioulis) Besbekis, his siblings Tom and Gloria Besbekis, and his cherished and loving wife Elaine (nee Shangraw) of 32 years. He attended Sullivan High School in Chicago his Freshman year then was accepted into Lane Technical Academy after rigorous entry requirements. He became a Mechanical Engineer after graduating from the ILL Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree. A proud and strong Marine Veteran who survived the harrowing “Battle of the Frozen Chosin Reservoir” in the Korean War. He was an award-winning dog breeder of Norwich Terriers and was a Member in Good Standing of The Great Lakes All Terrior Association. As an avid gardener in past years, he has won prizes for his roses and in recent years, grew peonies which he enjoyed sharing with friends and neighbors. He leaves many cousins: Helen Gelis, Katie Olsen and the late Bertha Kyriazopoulos, Cynthia Williams, Tom Williams, Eleni Camberis, Dorothy Padgitt, Georgia Kotsiopoulos, John Bisioulis and Gus Bisioulis. Long-time family friend of Christina Kanatas, Jackie McMurray, Judy Fiffer, Sander and Fern Berman, Beth and Mike Bailey, and Gus and Nancy Batsocas. Funeral service Monday, May 3, 2021 at 1:00pm at Transfiguration of Our Lord Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery with interment to follow.
