Gus J. Mellas

Gus J. Mellas, age 101, fell asleep in the Lord July 28, 2023. Beloved husband of Anna Mellas née Kalergis for 74 years. Loving father of Maria (Cary) Kalant, John (Kim) Mellas and Nick (Dawn) Mellas. Devoted son of the late John and Isadora Mellas. Proud grandfather of George (Heather) and Dean (Jennifer) Kalant, Nicolas, Angelique, Dean, Anna (Payton) and Alex Mellas, Helen (Mark) Loacker, Anna Mellas, Joe Gibbs (Jenny), Kristin Inkley (Brian), Great grandfather of Katherine, Gwyneth and Elizabeth Kalant, Olivia, James Inkley. Dear brother, uncle and cousin of many.

Gus was a World War II veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a successful restauranteur in downtown Chicago. Gus was endlessly devoted to his family, and will always be remembered for his gentle warmth and wisdom. His love of opera has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. His beautiful garden will stand as a fond remembrance of him always.

Visitation Wednesday August 2, 2023 from 9:30 AM until time of Funeral Service 10:30 AM at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2727 West Winona Street, Chicago, IL 60625. The Funeral Service may be viewed live or recorded at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church YouTube. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL. The Graveside Service may be viewed live or recorded at Memory Eternal Funerals Facebook page.
