Helen N. Karkazis née Nickolaou, age 88, fell asleep in the Lord April 8, 2023. Beloved wife of George T. Karkazis. Loving mother of Frank and Harry (Alexa) Karkazis. Devoted daughter of Harry Nickolaou and Betty Pontikes. Proud grandmother of Frank, Karlee, Eleni, George, Nicole and Sophee. Fond aunt of the Logothetis, Anast, Skizas, Pontikes, and Nickolaou families.
Helen got her Master’s degree in music from DePaul University and is a former President of the SAI Music Fraternity. She was in the Saints Peter & Paul choir for over 40 years and was an active supporter of the musical events at the Northbrook Public Library. Originally a Chicago Public School teacher, Helen transitioned to a private piano and voice teacher at her home where she taught dozens of kids for years and developed life changing bonds with many of her students/families who attended her funeral.
Funeral Services were held Thursday April 13, 2023 at Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Glenview, IL. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL. Memorial donations to Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church or Northbrook Public Library Foundation: Memo Helen Karkazis would be appreciated.
