Maria Eugenis, nee Grammas. Beloved wife of the late Peter T. Eugenis; loving mother of Ted P. (Maria), Chris P. (Christine), Gigi (Paul) Ray, and Cameron P. (Julié) Eugenis; proud grandmother of Ariana, Giovanni, Olivia, Peter A., Peter C., Sam, Beti and Beamlak; devoted daughter of the late Chris K. and Christine Derzis Grammas; dear sister of Tasia (the late Deno) Fifles; fond aunt of George Dean, Stephani, Chris and Mark (Lisa) Fifles, and Ted (Sue), Irene, Fr. Andrew (Presvytera Angela) Eugenis, Fond Great Aunt of Anton Eugenis, fond Cousin of the Derzis and Grammas families, and, friend of many who will miss her greatly. Maria was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon her marriage to Pete, Maria moved to Chicago. She was active in many theatrical pursuits, including the Grecian Holiday productions, and, all plays of the St. John Players. Maria worked for 28 years for the City of Des Plaines. Upon her retirement, she found her true passion in volunteering at the Greek American Rehab and Care Centre, where she served as both President of the Auxiliary, and, as a devoted volunteer and trivia caller for over 20 years. She also worked at the Allstate Arena as an usher for events as varied as rap and pop music concerts, as well as hockey (Wolves) games, where she was once injured by a puck, even though she was not on the ice! Maria was a devoted Cubs fan, as well as a Bulls and Blackhawks fan, and, watched every game while relaxing at home. Maria was a devoted member of the Church Choir, and, the Choir Federation, and an enthusiastic Member of the Philoptochos Society. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Eugenis’s nurses, Maritu (Agape Hospice), Erin Hightower (Community Hospice), and to Ailsa Grider, her daily caregiver, for their loving care and support. Visitation Friday, February 19, 2021 4 PM-8 PM at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W. Talcott, Park Ridge. Family and friends will meet Saturday morning at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church 7373 N. Caldwell Ave. Niles, IL 60714 for funeral service at 9:30 AM, friends who cannot attend can view the service live at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church at 9:30AM. Covid restrictions will apply. Guests will be asked to wear masks and practice social distancing. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery where the service can be viewed at John G. Adinamis Facebook live at approximately 11:15AM. First St., Wheeling, IL 60090, or to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
