Mary Emily Stathopulos (nee Moudakes), age 89, fell asleep in the Lord August 26, 2023. Beloved wife of John J. Stathopulos for 61 years. Loving mother of James J. Stathopulos, Regina (Zenon) Martynek, Andrew J. (Kim) Stathopulos. Devoted daughter of Theodore and Christine Moudakes. Proud grandmother of Stephanie, Katie, Michael, Nicole, John, Angela and the late Johnny. Great grandmother of Amari. Dear sister of the late Ann (Tom) Katsahnias. Sister-in-law of Regina (James) Smirles and the late Gregory Stathopulos. Fond aunt and cousin of many.
Mary loved music, opera and dancing. She enjoyed exercising, gardening, family vacations, babysitting her grandchildren and visiting the lodge in at Rosses Teal Lake in Wisconsin. A wonderful cook, especially all the Greek dishes! A creative painting artist. Enjoyed working at Scott Foresman as a manuscript typist. Mary’s greatest love was her family, John was proud to be her loving husband and her children were proud to call her mom.
Visitation Friday, September 1, 2023 from 12:00 PM until time of Funeral Service 12:30 PM at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church 1401 Wagner Road, Glenview, IL 60025. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL.
